Here it is people. This is a major new introduction from Piaget, and it is really impressive stuff. Piaget is known for making the thinnest complicated replica watches in the world. Actually, they also happen to make the thinnest mechanical fake watch in the world, period. Today, they add a major introduction to their revered Altiplano line with a new in-house, ultra-thin flyback chronograph. This is the real deal.
This 41 mm chronograph features the new Piaget caliber 883P, the thinnest hand-wound flyback chronograph ever made. The depth of the whole movement is just 4.65 mm thick, with a power reserve of 50 hours and 3Hz beat rate. But just because it's thin doesn't mean Piaget skimped out on anything ?as I mentioned it's a flyback, with vertical clutch and column-wheel.
This impressive new caliber is finished with circular Côtes de Genève, a circular-grained mainplate, lovely bevelled bridges, and engraved mainplate with the Piaget coat-of-arms, and, for some color, blued screws.
As Piaget is known to do, this fake watch not only sets a record for thinnest chronograph, but also for the fake watch itself, which is only 8.24 mm thick. But what is perhaps most interesting about this fake watch is that Piaget chose not to stop with a chronograph, also adding a second timezone. Yes, that register at 9 o'clock is actually a GMT dial, meaning that this is a 30-minute chronograph, with running seconds, and second timezone.
Now some might have preferred Piaget to offer a 60-minute counter or even an hours register on this chronograph, but I really like that it's a GMT chronograph ?easily my two preferred and most useful complications. The Piaget Altiplano Chronograph is available in rose gold at 41 mm or in white gold with brilliant-cut diamonds around the bezel. We can expect to see this fake watch in a white metal sans stones next year, if previous releases from Piaget tell us anything.
Again, this new introduction from Piaget proves once more how seriously Piaget takes its watchmaking -just fantastic stuff. The price for the Altiplano Chronograph will be $29,000 and it should be available next fall. More here.
